This memorial album is dedicated to the memory of Bill Jacobs (1948 – 2019) (William Ernest Jacobs), a vibraphonist, composer, percussionist, and teacher. His experiences included studying vibes with Bobby Hutcherson, and performing with Lenny White, James Spaulding, Joe Cuba, Steve Kroon, and many others. He brought the first music programs to the Afrikan Poetry Theater in St. Albans, Queens, where he mentored, taught and performed.

Chacho Ramirez writes, “Working with Bill was always a collaboration, a lesson in music and in spirituality, which was felt in all his compositions. In his last days, I promised him that I would keep his music alive by performing and recording it. This album is the realization of that promise.”

Review of the album "Lizzie's Lounge" (2023) by La Banda Ramirez

Chacho Ramirez and Carolyn Steinberg‘s third CD as a leader of La Banda Ramirez, “Lizzie‘s Lounge” begins with the tune “Global Function,” composed by vibraphonist/percussionist Bill Jacobs. I’ve always thought of salsa bands in the same manner as I do big bands. They are huge locomotives and the engine is the rhythm section. That’s how this first song starts out: beginning with an impressively charismatic and powerful solo by Grammy winner Carly Maldonado, add a 3/2 clave, bass, then piano and mix well, and you have some stone-cold groove!

Cuban Butterflies, the title track, from the pen of Bill Jacobs, infects us with beautiful harmonies and a forward march, highlighting the performances of Carolyn Steinberg Ramírez in a masterful flute solo, supported, towards the conclusion, by one of Chacho Ramírez on the congas.
